Assessing the Ability of Large Language Models to Solve Sequential Decision-Making Problems

Mar 2025 – Jun 2025 · AIMS South Africa / Stellenbosch University

Assessed and characterised the ability of Large Language Models (LLMs) to solve sequential decision-making problems, with a focus on the Multi-Armed Bandit (MAB) problem. The research evaluated whether modern LLMs can replicate, complement, or exceed classical decision strategies and explored their fundamental capabilities and limitations in sequential reasoning under uncertainty.

Supervisor: Prof Audrey Durand — Université Laval, Canada.
